Fatality Traffic Collision (Press Release)

On Sunday December 11, 2011 at approximately 1:58 A.M. in the morning, officers of the Abilene Police Department responded to a major vehicle collision at North 10th and the Winters Freeway. Upon arrival they found a white 2004 Ford F-250 with severe damage. The vehicle was northbound on the Winters Freeway and struck the concrete median causing the vehicle to drive across both lanes into the guardrail on the overpass of North 10th. The vehicle was propelled over the guardrail where it landed on the street below. The truck came to rest on the north side of North 10th on the grassy area.

This vehicle was occupied by six people. Five of the occupants were from Throckmorton and one was from Godley, Texas. The ages ranged from 21 to 38 years of age. One of the back passengers died at the scene due to his injuries. He was pronounced deceased by Justice of the Peace Cleveland. Two others were transported by ambulance for their injuries. One is in serious condition and the other is stable. Three occupants had minor injuries and were treated at the scene.

All names are being withheld at this time pending family notifications.

Alcohol may be a factor in this collision and is under investigation by members of the Abilene Police Department’s Traffic Division. More information may be released as it becomes available.
