Concentrated Traffic Enforcement – S. 14th Street (Press Release)

by Traffic Division, Thursday, April 12, 2012, 02:00 (2072 days ago)

This year Chief Stan Standridge completed a Strategic Business Plan for the Abilene Police Department. This document lists several key goals for the Police Department. One of the goals is to reduce the number of on street traffic collisions in the city by 3%. This is to continue the original goal of a 3% reduction in overall collisions in 2011. The department was successful and was able to reduce collisions by over 7%.

To try and reach this goal the Police Department evaluates the number of collisions on a monthly basis and identifies the area of town with the most collisions. The area the department is currently working on is S. 14th Street from Sayles Blvd. to Clack Street.

The Traffic and Patrol Division are going to focus their enforcement in this area to gain voluntary compliance with traffic laws and reduce the number of collisions. The public should expect to see an increase in the number of traffic stops in this area. The most common violations are the failure to yield the right of way and unsafe lane changes.

We would ask that the public use caution when driving not only in this area but at any time they are driving.
