ABILENE, TX – At about 2 am Thursday morning October 4, 2012, the Abilene Police Department’s (APD) Patrol Division responded to a robbery call at a business in the 1000 block of East Highway 80. The store clerk advised APD Dispatch that the store had been robbed by a white male suspect that he further described. The victim also provided the description of a getaway vehicle, a license plate number, and the suspect vehicle’s last known direction of travel.

Officers converged to the scene and began their preliminary investigation. The suspect vehicle was not immediately located. The investigation revealed that the suspect entered the store and went straight for the cash register. The investigation further revealed that the store clerk heard the suspect tell him he had a gun. During the course of the robbery, the suspect and clerk got into a physical struggle outside the store. The clerk sustained minor injuries to his hands and face and the suspect fled the scene. An unknown quantity of cash was taken during this crime.

At about 3:50 am, an observant officer located the probable suspect vehicle in an apartment complex in the 500 block of N. Judge Ely Boulevard. Several officers assisted and they contacted a white male inside the vehicle that matched the robber’s description. The suspect was detained and taken back to the scene of the robbery and was positively identified by the store clerk as the man that entered and robbed the store. The robbery suspect was identified as Aaron G. Rimes (DOB: 8/2/93) of Abilene. The suspect was questioned in the field. The preliminary facts in this investigation revealed that Mr. Rimes was the only suspect involved in the robbery.

As of this release, Mr. Rimes posted bail today on a surety bond of $10,000.00. This investigation is ongoing and APD will not be able to release any further information at this time.
