ABILENE, TX – Today at about 9:37 am, the Abilene Police Department (APD) was notified by Prosperity Bank, located at 3002 N. 12th Street, that they had just been robbed. Officers with the Patrol Division responded to the call. Efforts to locate the suspect were made as officers converged to the scene and began setting up a perimeter in nearby areas based on information provided at the time. Detectives with APD’s Criminal Investigation Division were also summoned to the scene to assist with the investigation.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a male suspect had entered the bank and provided a note to a teller expressing his demand for money. Investigators also learned that the bank robber did not converse with the involved teller and that he never displayed a weapon during the robbery. The robbery suspect then fled the bank with an undisclosed quantity of money and was last seen walking in a northerly direction. A preliminary description of the robber was provided and relayed to local media who were covering the incident at the scene. Additionally, a segment of bank video that captured the robber at the teller window was later released to our media partners in hopes that the suspect’s identification, or any information concerning the robbery, would be revealed.

Further suspect descriptors are as follows: heavyset, dark complected black male, with dreadlocks, approximately six-feet tall, and had facial hair. The clothing worn included a dark or black jacket and black pants, as well as a white V-neck undershirt. Additional information suggests that the man wore a wallet that had a chain attached and that he wore white shoes.

This investigation continues as the Department seeks to identify the robbery suspect. Anyone with any information concerning this robbery is encouraged to contact APD at (325) 673-8331.
