Motor Vehicle Collision (Press Release)

by Police Administration, Saturday, November 10, 2012, 01:01 (2291 days ago)

ABILENE, TX – The Abilene Police Department responded to a single motor vehicle collision in the 3500 block of Ambler around 1:44 a.m. this morning. Just prior to the collision, an Abilene Police Officer had witnessed the involved vehicle run a red light. The vehicle, a 1996 Ford Contour, was traveling westbound on Ambler. Before the officer was able to affect a traffic stop on this vehicle, it sped off at a high rate of speed. The officer then drove upon the crash scene and discovered that the vehicle had lost control, leaving the street and ultimately collided with a utility pole. The vehicle sheered the pole at the base and continued into the intersection of Ambler and Bel Air.

The sole occupant of the vehicle was transported to Hendrick Medical Center and then flown to Lubbock with critical injuries. It is unknown at this time whether intoxication could have played a factor in this collision. We will not be able to release the name of the driver until we can confirm that family members have been notified. Officers are actively working on this.

Thank you,

Doug Wrenn
Assistant Chief of Police
