ABILENE, TX - On Saturday, March 9th, 2013 at approximately 12:33 pm, officers with the Abilene Police Department's Patrol and Traffic Divisions responded to a call of a major motor vehicle collision near the 3400 block of West Stamford Street. A 2001 maroon Ford Explorer SportTrac was travelling east on Interstate 20 when it collided with a 2011 white Nissan Quest that was merging onto Interstate 20 EB from NB U.S. Highway 83. The Ford moved off the roadway after the collision, rolled over, and ejected the sole occupant of the vehicle, Marlinda Beasley, a 43 year old female from Hawley, TX. The Nissan van contained three occupants, none of which sustained major injuries in the crash.

Marlinda Beasley was pronounced deceased at the scene by Justice of the Peace Frank Cleveland. Next of kin notification has been made. It is believed at this time that wet roadway conditions may have been a contributing factor in the crash. Beasley was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision. It is unknown at this point if alcohol is a contributing factor. This crash is under investigation by the Abilene Police Department's Traffic Division. More information may be released at a later time.
