UPDATE: Shooting at 3000 North 6th--Suspect Arrested (Press Release)

ABILENE, TX - During the early morning hours of May 31, 2014, officers with the Abilene Police Department’s SWAT Unit executed a search and arrest warrant at a residence in the 1900 block of Denton Street where the suspect involved in last night’s shooting incident, Clifford C. Cook Jr. (DOB: 04/01/76), was located and arrested. The gun believed to have been used in the crime was located and seized. Cook was booked on the following charges with bonds totaling $96,000: 1st-degree felony Injury to a Child, 3rd-degree felony Possession of Firearm by Felon and misdemeanor Possession of Marijuana.

On 5-30-14 at approximately 8:30 pm, Abilene Police Dispatch was notified of a shooting that had just occurred at an apartment complex in the 3000 block of North 6th. Initial reports stated one person had been shot and was being transported to Hendrick Medical Center by private auto.

Officers were dispatched immediately to the scene of the shooting as well as Hendrick Medical Center. Detectives from the Special Victims Unit and Crimes Against Persons Unit were also notified and began an investigation.

The victim, a thirteen year old boy, was treated and released at Hendrick Medical Center. He did suffer one gunshot wound to the abdomen. Initial information indicated a disturbance occurred between several subjects near the apartment complex. During that altercation, shots were fired.

The circumstances surrounding this case are under active investigation by multiple detectives and patrol officers. The suspect is at large and his identity is unknown. There are, however, several leads being followed at this time.
