ABILENE, TX – The Abilene Police Department is accepting applications for the Public Information Coordinator position. The job listing is posted at http://agency.governmentjobs.com/abilenetx/default.cfm and will be administered by www.neogov.com. For the past two and a half years, Public Information Officer George Spindler has diligently handled the media related queries and requests for the Abilene Police Department. Officer Spindler was an integral part of a departmental movement to efficiently provide timely and accurate information to the public via social media and local news agencies. Officer Spindler will be transferring back to the Patrol Division where he will continue his service to the citizens of Abilene. The new Public Information Coordinator will assume Officer Spindler’s responsibilities in working closely with the media as well as managing the department’s social media ventures. This position is an example of a new endeavor by the Department to incorporate civilian employees into the administrative functions of the police department, thereby allowing more officers to be assigned to patrol and investigative divisions.
