On Monday, September 29, 2014 at approximately 7:25 P.M. officers with the Abilene Police Department responded to the scene of a motor vehicle collision on I-20 near Old Anson Road. Early reports indicated that a car ran over a motorcycle. When officers arrived at the scene, they found the driver of the motorcycle deceased on the side of the road near the point where the collision occurred. The deceased was identified as Robert Harrington, a 48 year old resident of Abilene. The driver of the other vehicle remained at the scene, and was later transported to the Law Enforcement Center to be interviewed. Officers with the Abilene Police Department Traffic Division were called to investigate the collision, and detectives with the Abilene Police Department Crimes Against Persons Unit were called to investigate the events leading up to the collision. The Traffic Division and the Crimes Against Persons Unit are conducting a joint investigation into this incident. The initial investigation revealed the driver of the motorcycle pulled in front of the driver of a Nissan Rogue and then applied the brakes of the motorcycle. The SUV and the motorcycle collided on the entrance ramp of I-20 just east of Old Anson Road. The investigation is still ongoing and will ultimately be sent to the Taylor County District Attorney’s Officer for consideration of any applicable charges.
