Stay Alive Don’t Drink and Drive

ABILENE, TX – Alcohol-related crashes are a serious problem in Texas. The State has a DUI-alcohol crash every 20 minutes and 37 seconds. The holidays can be a time to celebrate and enjoy time with family and friends wherein alcohol is often included in festivities.
The Abilene Police Department is teaming up with local agencies to help spread the message – Stay Alive Don’t Drink and Drive. The Abilene Fire Department, Texas Department of Transportation and MetroCare will be on hand to discuss the benefits of sober driving. TxDot will have their Sober Sleigh on hand, designed to bring awareness of driving sober during the holidays.
When: Wednesday, December 3rd
Where: Front of LEC 450 Pecan
Time: 1:30 p.m.
If you are going to consume alcohol, follow the rules of the road. Do not get behind the wheel. Designate a driver, catch a bus, call a cab or someone you trust to pick you up or if necessary, spend the night where you are.
A DWI arrest and conviction in Texas can cost up to $17,000. Offenders must pay a long list of costs, including vehicle towing and impoundment, bail, attorney fees, court and probation fees, fees to regain or retain a driver license, and a hike in auto insurance premiums. The most important reason to drive sober however remains the fact that lives depend on saying no to drunk driving- lives including your own!
