Abilene Police K-9 Shadow receives Top Dog honor (Press Release)

ABILENE, TX – Abilene Police K-9 Shadow and handler Officer Kevin Pyeatt received Top Dog honor for region 25 in Texas. Each year Abilene Police K-9’s have to get certified through a week long exercise by the United States Police Canine Association. This year’s exercise took place March 23 – 27 in Denton TX. The certification process involves a series of tests through the week which include agility, obedience, article searches, suspect search, and criminal apprehension. Each dog is scored on each exercise and based upon those scores, Abilene Police K-9 Shadow won Top Dog overall. There were 23 K-9 teams from agencies throughout West Texas.

Officer Kevin Pyeatt is a 20 year police veteran with 14 years of K-9 experience. Shadow is a dual purpose K-9 who searches for illegal narcotics and hidden persons. Shadow is the third K-9 Officer Pyeatt has been partnered with. The Department is proud of the achievement and congratulates Officer Pyeatt and Shadow for this accomplishment.
