Fatality Vehicle Collision #15-12685 (Press Release)

On Saturday June 27th, 2015 at 1:10am the Abilene Police Department received a call of a major vehicle crash at S.14th Street and S. Willis Street. First responders arrived on the scene and located a Toyota SUV on its side and a Honda Accord in the parking lot of Jack N Jill Donut Shop at 3298 S. 14th Street. Due to the injuries to the occupants the Traffic Division responded to assist with the investigation.

The investigation revealed that there were two occupants in the Toyota, a 23 year old white male driver and a 24 year old white female passenger, and one occupant in the Honda, a 30 year old white female. The Toyota was eastbound on S.14th Street approaching the flashing yellow signal light at S. Willis Street. The Honda was Northbound on S. Willis Street approaching the flashing red signal at S. 14th Street. The Honda disobeyed the flashing red signal and was struck by the Toyota.

Both occupants of the Toyota were transported to a local hospital by ambulance for nonlife threatening injuries. The occupant of the Honda, Stephanie Petty died at the scene as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. Petty was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision. At 1:40am Petty was pronounced deceased by Justice of the Peace Sparky Dean.

Officers of the Traffic Division are continuing to investigate this crash and are awaiting toxicology results to determine if alcohol was a factor.
