ABILENE, TX – Good evening. It has been a really long day, and an even longer week.

It is with bittersweet emotion that I am announcing two arrests in connection to the murder of Officer Don Allen.

Shortly after 6p.m., the Texas Rangers and Officers of the Abilene Police Department arrested Violetta Walter age 30 and Phillip Walter age 29. They were taken into custody at a south side apartment complex in the 1000 block of South Clack in Abilene under arrest warrants obtained by the Texas Rangers. They have been arrested for 1st degree felony Murder, which in the State of Texas carries confinement ranging from 5 to 99 years, or life. Their bond is set at $500,000 each.

The investigation is still underway and evidence is being processed. I still cannot discuss specifics of the investigation, but we were able to link the suspects to property taken from Don Allen’s residence. Additionally, physical evidence recovered at the scene has linked the suspects to the crime. While I cannot discuss the specifics, we are confident that we have taken the correct people into custody. We do not believe there are any other suspects.

I was with the family of Don Allen when they were taken into custody and I was able to notify them.

All investigators have worked tirelessly on this investigation. I am grateful to all of them, and especially to the Texas Rangers. They would be standing here with me if they were not still neck deep in the investigation. I also extend my sincere thanks to the Clyde Police Department, FBI and ATF. They have walked with us through this terrible ordeal.

It is important to note that we still need to bury Don Allen tomorrow, and the Allen and Waters families will need us to walk alongside them.

Violetta Walter mug shot will be available once she is booked in to the County Jail
