Pedestrian hit by vehicle (Press Release)

ABILENE, TX – On October 9, 2015 just before 7:30 a.m., Abilene’s Emergency Communication Center received a 911 call regarding a child that had been struck by a vehicle at South 27th and Barrow St. Upon arrival, emergency personnel located the victim lying in the street at that intersection. The child was transported to by his Hendrick Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. The boy was transported to the hospital by his parents in a private automobile.

The investigation revealed the vehicle involved was traveling east on South 27th at Barrow and proceeded into the intersection on a green light. The child was crossing South 27th southbound against the pedestrian control light, when the pickup struck him. This intersection is equipped with a crosswalk and traffic signals and the collision occurred in low light conditions. No citations have been issued and the investigation continues.

The Abilene Police Department wants to remind drivers and pedestrians to be aware and cautious as the daylight hours have shortened.
