Female Arrested, Found with Several Pieces of Stolen Identity Information (Press Release)

ABILENE, TX – On September 6, 2016, Officers with the Abilene Police Department Patrol Division and Fraud Unit arrested 39 year old Alice Melton for Class B Misdemeanor Theft at Wal-Mart. Upon being arrested, Melton was found to be in possession of over 10 pieces of identifying information from other persons. Melton further attempted to use the identity of one of the victims when she was identified by the patrol officer.

A search of her person revealed several stolen checkbooks with forged checks issued to pay under assumed names. Melton was also found to be in possession of property from vehicle and house burglaries. Melton was arrested for a Second Degree Felony Identity Theft and Class B Misdemeanor Theft of Property.

Cases will be filed with the Taylor County District Attorney’s office for State Jail Felony Forgery and Second Degree Felony Burglary of a Habitation. Officers are still in the process of contacting victims in regards to the identity theft.
