Suspect Arrested for Explosive Device Found In Motel Room (Press Release)

ABILENE, TX – On October 4, 2017, the Abilene Police Department Street Crimes Unit with the assistance of Patrol and Bomb Squad, arrested Keilyn Batts (28). An investigation revealed he was the suspect sought in an incident involving an improvised explosive device (IED) found in a vacant north Abilene motel room in December of 2016. A motel employee noticed the device and contacted the Abilene Police Department. Bomb technicians took control of the device without incident.

A lengthy investigation revealed Batts as the suspect. A warrant was issued for his arrest and on October 4, he was taken into custody. He is currently being held at the Taylor County Jail in lieu of a $100,000 bond. He is charged with 3rd Degree Felony Possession of a Prohibited Weapon.
