Thomas Niblo Investigative Update December 2018 (Press Release)

by Public Information Officer, Tuesday, December 04, 2018, 12:01 (14 days ago)

ABILENE, TX – Thomas “Tom” Niblo was murdered in Abilene on December 12, 2016. The Abilene Police Department never closes an unsolved homicide and remains committed to arresting the offender who murdered Tom Niblo.

The Abilene Police Department created a task force in February 2017, which did nothing but investigate all aspects of the Niblo murder. They had to comb through thousands of documents and try to connect dots. This is still an active investigation. Since inception, the Department has collaborated with the Taylor County District Attorney’s Office, the Department of Public Safety, Texas Rangers and CID, the FBI Behavioral Analysis Unit, and an FBI Cellular Analysis Survey Team out of Dallas. Two members of Abilene’s Criminal Investigations Division remain actively assigned to the case, including the lead detective and a detective sergeant, and APD’s Cyber Crimes continues to push information to the FBI for analysis.

The Department has executed 33 search warrants and seized countless items of evidence regarding the Niblo investigation. The Department has incurred significant costs to ensure all evidence was tested. The Department is currently waiting for additional analysis from the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit. As stated before, Luke Sweetser remains a person of interest. I cannot offer additional comment without jeopardizing this investigation.

The Abilene Police Department investigates all murders inside the corporate City limits of Abilene. I can assure the public that the Police Department is fully committed to filing the Niblo case for successful prosecution, and to bring justice to his family. The Department remains equally committed to solving all unsolved murders.

Chief Stan Standridge
Abilene Police Department
