The Abilene Police Department recently concluded a “No Refusal” DWI weekend. During the weekend extra officers augmented the Patrol Division with particular attention being paid to impaired drivers. Nurses were available at the City Health Clinic to draw blood and magistrates were on stand-by for search warrant applications.

In the event of an arrest for DWI where the person arrested refused to provide a breath sample or the circumstances did not require a mandatory blood draw, a search warrant would be sought to obtain a blood sample.

Ten DWI arrests were made during the Labor Day “No Refusal” weekend from Friday 9-2-11 through Monday 9-5-11. Of those ten arrests, five provided a breath sample and five provided a blood sample. Three blood samples were consensual, one was a mandatory, and one was obtained by a search warrant.

There were no fatal accidents reported in the City of Abilene during the Labor Day weekend.
