by Public Information Officer, Wednesday, September 14, 2011, 02:00 (2282 days ago)

There have been two sexual assault reports in recent weeks near the Mall of Abilene. The first case occurred on August 29th, 2011 between midnight and 1:00 am. The victim was attacked as she approached her car in the parking lot. The suspect forced the victim into her vehicle and then committed the sexual assault. No weapon other than bodily force was used during this incident. The suspect is described as a white male in his twenties, 5’08”, with a medium build.

The second incident occurred on September 5th, 2011 at approximately 9:00 p.m. The victim was confronted as she neared her vehicle. The suspect displayed a handgun and ordered the victim into her car and then committed the sexual assault. This suspect was also described as a white male in his twenties.

Both cases are being investigated earnestly. While there is a possibility both of these offenses were committed by same offender, we have no definitive evidence which links these crimes. This possibility is being considered and examined. The commonalities between the two offenses are the same general description of the suspect and the location. Both of these offenses occurred on the west side of the Mall of Abilene in the parking lot.

Anyone with information regarding these cases is encouraged to contact the Abilene Police Department at 325-673-8331 or Crimestoppers at 325-676-TIPS (676-8477).
