On November 10th, 2011, the Abilene Police Department’s Crimes Against Persons Unit received information that an infant child had been sold by the child’s mother for $2,000. This transaction allegedly occurred in late September. Acting on that information, the child’s mother, Joanna Delacruz Huerta (29 years old) was picked up at her residence and transported to the LEC.

Based on information obtained during the interview with Huerta, a search warrant was executed in the 700 block of Elm Street. The child was located and taken into protective custody. The child has been released to CPS.

Joanna Huerta has been arrested and charged with Sale or Purchase of a Child, a third degree felony. If convicted, Huerta faces 2-10 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine.

The woman that allegedly purchased the child, Marilu Munoz (Age 27) was also arrested and charged with Sale or Purchase of a Child. She faces the same punishment if convicted.
