by Traffic Division, Tuesday, December 06, 2011, 01:00 (2696 days ago)

On 12-06-2011 at approximately 3:33 p.m. the Abilene Police Department received a report of a possible intoxicated driver in the 2400 block of East Overland Trail. An officer of the Abilene Police Department located the vehicle at that location and attempted to initiate contact. The vehicle then left the scene eastbound, entered Interstate 20 traveling eastbound in the westbound lane.

A short distance later the suspect vehicle collided with a westbound vehicle in the inside lane of I20 mile 292. Both vehicles were 1999 Ford Explorers. The suspect was driving an Explorer, blue in color. The victim was driving an Explorer, beige in color. The suspect vehicle came to rest near the area of impact. The victim’s vehicle rolled backwards and onto its right side. It came to rest upright against the cable barrier in the center median.

The driver of the blue Explorer is a white male age 30 of Abilene. The driver of the beige Explorer is a white female age 24 of Clyde. Both were transported to Hendrick Trauma Center by MetroCare Ambulance, both in critical condition. Names of both drivers are being withheld pending the notification of next of kin.

Alcohol does appear to be a factor in this pursuit and collision, as well as several traffic related charges. Investigation continues at this time.
