The Abilene Police Department is proud to announce the graduation of Lieutenant Shain Burks from the FBI National Academy, Session #247 on Friday December 16, 2011. Lt. Burks joins the distinguished ranks of less than one percent of all law enforcement officers to have completed this program. He shared his intensive eleven week course at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia with other law enforcement professionals from 48 states and 25 foreign countries.

In addition to completing several college classes (including ethics, leadership, and labor law), Lt Burks finished the physically challenging ‘yellow brick road’ program which concludes with a Marine Corps obstacle course and 6.1 mile run. He also successfully finished the FBINA swim challenge. In doing so, Lt. Burks swam a total of 34 miles (or the equivalent of the distance between Quantico and Washington DC).

Lt. Burks is currently assigned command of the department’s Special Operation Division. He is back in Abilene enjoying some well-deserved time off with his family. He joins three other current Abilene Police Officers who have completed the FBINA program: Chief Stan Standridge, Assistant Chief Jim Berry, and Assistant Chief Mike Perry.
