The Abilene Police Street Crimes Unit (SCU) recently conducted follow-up investigation on several residential burglaries that were similar in nature. The SCU was able to develop a suspect from information provided by one of the victims. This information alerted a local business to be on alert for this suspect who notified the police when he came to the store. Agents of the Special Operations Division (SOD) later had this suspect under surveillance when they saw him go to a duplex and return later carrying some items.

SCU officers followed the suspect and SOD agents discovered that a burglary had been committed. The suspect went to a residence where he was taken into custody. The suspect is Gerard Earl Cooper, 3-26-78. Cooper is charged with Burglary of a Habitation.

A search warrant was executed at the residence where Cooper was taken into custody by SCU officers and detectives from the Crimes Against Property Unit. Numerous items of stolen property were recovered.

Arrested at the residence where the search warrant was executed was Apollonia Louise Edwards, 3-16-86. More charges on Cooper are pending. Edwards is charged with Tampering with Evidence and Interference with Public Duties.

This was a coordinated effort involving three different divisions of the Abilene Police Department and will result in the clearing of six burglary cases.
