Major Vehicle vs. Pedestrian Traffic Fatality (Press Release)

ABILENE, TX – On Friday, June 15, 2012 at approximately 9:55 p.m., the Abilene Police Department received a call of a major motor vehicle collision in the 2500 block of South 1st Street. Officers arrived on scene and found a female subject lying in the roadway. A preliminary investigation revealed the female had been crossing South 1st Street and was struck by a 2003 Maroon Ford Windstar van that was eastbound on South 1st Street.

The van was occupied by a male driver, Elmore Meador (age 75) and a female passenger, Ada Meador (age 73), from the city of Cross Plains. Neither occupant of the van sustained injuries as a result of the collision. The vehicle sustained minor damage to the front left bumper area.

The pedestrian was identified as Mary Margaret Bowdon (DOB: 11-24-1957) and Metrocare Ambulance transported her to Hendrick Medical Center for injuries sustained in the collision. Justice of the Peace A.L. Deathridge later pronounced her dead at Hendrick Medical Center. Next of kin notification has been made.

This crash is currently under investigation by officers of the Abilene Police Department Traffic Division (case # 12-10692). The preliminary investigation revealed that impaired driving was not a contributing factor. More information may be released as it becomes available.
