ABILENE, TX – On Wednesday June 6, 2012 at approximately 6:00 p.m., the Abilene Police Department received a call of a robbery from the victim at her residence in the 2500 block of Nonesuch Road. An elderly female, age 70, reported that she was attempting to enter her home when an unknown suspect approached her from behind and grabbed hold of the victim’s purse that she had secured on her person. During the theft of her purse, the victim fell to the ground and struck her head on the concrete and sustained a large cut to the back of her head that required medical attention. Although dazed, the victim managed to see a suspect running away. A witness also saw a person running at around the same time of this incident carrying a purse that matched the description of the victim’s purse. This witness notified police of those observations and reported that he thought a theft of someone’s purse had just occurred.

Initial attempts to locate a possible suspect were unsuccessful. Detectives with the Criminal Investigation Division picked up the case and began their investigation. The suspect was positively identified during the investigation as Michael Anthony Rodriguez, DOB: 04/27/87. The findings from this criminal investigation were gathered and presented to the District Attorney’s Office for their consideration of charges.

A pre-indictment warrant for the arrest of Suspect Rodriguez was issued. He was arrested yesterday (June 27, 2012) on the charge of 1st Degree Felony Aggravated Robbery (Case # 12-10096). Bond was set at $100,000.00.

This investigation continues and no further information about this incident will be released at this time.
