ABILENE, TX – National Night Out is America’s night out against crime. The Abilene community is invited to attend National Night Out on October 2, 2012. This event is hosted by the Abilene Police Department (APD) and sponsored by various organizations. This year’s event will be held indoors at the Abilene Civic Center from 6 pm to 8 pm. Target stores is this year’s national sponsor.

This event is designed to promote neighborhood unity and police-community partnerships in our fight for a safer Abilene.

Chief of Police Stan Standridge knows that community involvement is essential if we are going to effectively impact crime in our city—fighting crime in a city populated by over 117,000 citizens is not just a police matter. Chief Standridge encourages you to attend this event and to enjoy free food and kid-friendly activities. Various sponsors in our community are helping to make this event possible. There will be a drawing for prizes that include Target store gift cards and a grand prize donated by Best Buy.

A dialogue about crime in our city will be part of this venue. Several demonstrations, including Taser, K-9, bomb unit and a SWAT less-lethal demonstration, will be highlighted at the event. Please come and see how you can be part of making Abilene a safer place to live. Remember, a safer Abilene starts with you!
