ABILENE, TX – Early this morning at about 2:15 am, officers with the Abilene Police Department responded to a major motor vehicle collision involving two vehicles at the intersection of S. 14th and S. Danville Drive. Emergency medical personnel were also dispatched to the scene.

The preliminary investigation revealed that two motor vehicles, a 2008 Nissan Altima and a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer, had collided in the middle of the intersection. The Chevrolet was traveling east on S. 14th Street and was occupied by a female driver, Tiffany Haynes (age 35). The Nissan was traveling north on S. Danville Drive and was occupied by a male driver, Spencer Labrie (age 19) and a female passenger, Jillian Thomas (age 27). All persons in both vehicles were found to be wearing their seatbelts. Mr. Labrie and Ms. Thomas were both transported by ambulance to Hendrick Medical Center in critical condition. They both succumbed to their injuries sustained in the collision and were pronounced deceased by Justice of the Peace David Pueschel shortly after arriving at the hospital. Next of kin was notified.

Officers with the Traffic Division were summoned to assist in this investigation and discovered that the driver of the Nissan, Mr. Labrie, had failed to stop for a red flashing traffic signal and was broadsided by the Chevrolet who had the right-of-way. Ms. Haynes sustained minor non-life threatening injuries. She was not transported to a hospital. Blood samples were taken from both of the involved drivers.

This investigation continues under case # 12-21425.
