ABILENE, TX – At about 9:50 am Friday morning January 4, 2013, officers with the Abilene Police Department’s (APD) Patrol Division responded to a residential burglary in the 1300 block of S. La Salle Drive. A concerned citizen had observed young males leaving a residence and saw an object that she stated was a gun case being carried by one of the suspects. The witness kept watch over the area until police arrived.

As officers converged to the scene, detectives with the Criminal Investigation Division were nearby on an unrelated matter and also responded. Officers and detectives located a male suspect in the 1100 block of S. Jefferson Street that matched the description of a fleeing suspect. The suspect was quickly detained and identified as Reymundo Olivo (DOB: 03/30/94). Mr. Olivo was positively identified as the suspect seen carrying the gun case. Mr. Olivo was also found to be in possession of property later determined to have been stolen from the involved residence. The preliminary investigation uncovered the location of the gun case and its contents, a 12-guage shotgun.

Mr. Olivo was subsequently taken to the Law Enforcement Center for questioning. The investigation revealed that there were three persons victimized from this residential burglary and that guns and other property, valued at over $3,000.00, were stolen. The investigation revealed that Mr. Olivo was directly involved in the residential burglary. Mr. Olivo was arrested for the felony offense of Burglary of a Habitation and transported to Taylor County Jail.

This is another stellar example of a concerned citizen getting involved in our community. We remind the members of our community that they can directly help in the fight against crime by being a great witness. This investigation is still on-going and more details may be released as the investigation allows. This investigation continues under case # 13-000242.
