Motorcycle Fatality 2000 East Stamford (Press Release)

ABILENE, TX – On March 30, 2014 at 12:36 a.m., the Abilene Police Department received a call of a major motor vehicle collision in approximately the 2000 block of East Stamford involving a motorcyclist. Howard Ice age 50 was riding a 1990 Harley Davidson east bound on Stamford when he struck a 2012 Harley Davidson ridden by Howard Sturgis age 53 from behind. Both men are from Abilene. Ice was transported to the Hendrick Medical Center by private auto where he succumbed to his injuries. Ice was pronounced deceased by Justice of the Peace Bob Shea.

Ice was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision and it is unknown if Sturgis was wearing a helmet. It is unknown at this time if alcohol was a factor in this collision.

Officers of the Abilene Police Department’s Traffic Division will be continuing the investigation under case #14-5780. There may be further updates as more information becomes available.
