Child Homicide (Press Release)

On February 18, 2011 at approximately 10:00 am, the Abilene Police Department responded to an injured child call in the 2400 block of South 3rd. The child, Hayden Vickers (2 1⁄2 years old), was transported to Hendrick Medical Center and subsequently taken by helicopter to Cook Children’s Hospital in Ft. Worth. The victim suffered from injuries consistent with abusive head trauma. Hayden Vickers was pronounced deceased by doctors at Cook Children’s Hospital at 2:30 pm on February 19, 2011.

The investigation into this death has resulted in the arrest of Franklin Edward Ramey Jr, a white male, thirty years of age. Ramey was the boyfriend of the victim’s mother and lived in the residence where the offense occurred. Ramey was the only adult present at the time the child sustained the injuries. At approximately 11:50 am this morning, Ramey was arrested at a north side residence. He has been charged with murder and transported to the Taylor County Jail. His bond has not yet been set.
