by Public Information Officer, Thursday, July 03, 2014, 13:01 (1696 days ago)

ABILENE, TX – On July 2, 2014, at about 6:30 p.m., officers with Abilene Police Department’s (APD) Patrol Division responded to an injured subject call at an apartment complex in the 2400 block of Mimosa Drive. Information reported to APD by concerned citizens included the description of a male subject running and yelling that he had been shot. A few other citizens in the area reported hearing gun shots. Officers arrived and discovered there were no injured subjects at the scene but learned that a gun had been discharged outdoors. The person that had discharged the gun had fled the scene.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a male gun-shot victim had gone to Hendrick Medical Center (HMC) for injuries he sustained in this incident. Specifically, the male victim, identified as Jacque D. Johnson (DOB: 3/11/85), sustained injuries to his neck that were consistent with being struck by a bullet. Detectives with the Criminal Investigation Division were summoned to assist.

The investigation revealed that Johnson and a male suspect were involved in a disturbance inside an apartment in the 2400 block of Mimosa Drive. Johnson and the suspect apparently knew each other and the disturbance continued outdoors. The disturbance escalated and the male suspect discharged a firearm, believed to have been a handgun, at Johnson on several occasions, striking Johnson in the neck. A records check confirmed that Johnson was wanted for a drug-related parole violation. Johnson was treated and released from HMC and arrested. Johnson was taken to county jail where he was being held without bond for his parole warrant. The known suspect is believed to have fled our jurisdiction. No other arrests have been made in connection to this incident. APD anticipates having an arrest warrant issued for the shooting suspect today.

More details may become available as this ongoing Aggravated Assault investigation continues.
