ABILENE, TX – On Wednesday morning, August 13, 2014, at about 9:12 a.m., officers with the Patrol Division responded to a vehicle theft in progress at a business in the 2600 block of South 1st Street. A reporting party from the business notified Abilene Police Department (APD) that a 2014 Ford Mustang had just been stolen from their car dealership. Employees from the business followed the stolen vehicle and provided a description of the male suspect and the vehicles last known direction of travel; important information for responding officers. During the response, officers learned that the business had been burglarized overnight. Before officers contacted the stolen car, the suspect realized he was being followed and stopped the vehicle in the 300 block of Jeanette. The suspect then fled on foot. One of the employees stayed with the vehicle and informed APD about the developments. Patrol officers continued to converge to the area and they spotted the suspect running. Patrol officers then located the suspect in an alley near South 1st and Sayles Boulevard where he was arrested. The suspect was identified as Christopher A. Daniel (DOB: 11/07/85) and positively identified by a witness from the business as the person who stole the Mustang. The stolen Mustang was recovered and released to the victim. The Mustang was valued at approximately $25,000.

Daniel was taken to the Law Enforcement Center for questioning by detectives with the Crimes Against Property Unit. The investigation revealed that Daniel forcibly entered the same business on the evening of August 12th and stole several sets of car keys. He then returned to the business the following morning where he was detected stealing the Mustang. Daniel was arrested for the following felony offenses: Theft and Burglary of Building. Daniel was taken to Taylor County Jail and booked with bonds totaling $30,000.

The investigation continues and more information may be released as the investigation allows. These cases will be forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office for their consideration of charges.
