ABILENE, TX – On August 22, 2014 at approximately 2:48 pm, Abilene Police Dispatch received a 911 call from the occupant of a residence in the 1100 block of Burger St. on Abilene’s north side. The caller reported he was attacked by a known suspect. The resident responded to the attack by striking the suspect with a bat. The resident administered medical care to the suspect while he was on the phone with a 911 operator. He remained at the scene until police and medical personnel arrived.

Upon arrival, officers located the suspect, Christopher Moran, age 36, lying near the front door of the residence on the sidewalk. Moran was transported to Hendrick Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries in the early morning hours of August 23rd. Moran’s body was transported to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.

The investigation to this point has revealed that Moran was an ex-employee of the resident. Moran drove to the residence in the 1100 block of Burger where a verbal altercation occurred between Moran and the resident. The resident terminated the verbal argument and went inside his house. Moran responded by attempting to force entry into the residence at which time the resident struck Moran one time in the head with a bat. Both of the resident’s children (ages 10 and 15) were inside the residence at the time of the offense. The bat used was surrendered to the police by the resident.

This investigation is ongoing. Pursuant to Article 20.22 of the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure, the resident’s name will not be released until such time as a grand jury can be convened to hear the facts of the case.
