UPDATE: Major Traffic Accident on E. Hwy 80 (Press Release)

The driver of the white Chevrolet Malibu was identified as Deborah B. Cook, a 64 year old resident of Abilene. Deborah Cook succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased at Hendrick Medical Center by the attending physician. The investigation is still ongoing.

On September 5, 2014 at approximately 2:55 P.M. the Abilene Police Department received the report of a major motor vehicle collision in the 5400 block of East Highway 80. The initial call indicated that two vehicles were involved in a head-on collision on the access road of I-20. Officers with the APD Traffic Division responded to the wreck site and began the investigation. The investigation revealed that a white Chevrolet Malibu was traveling west bound on E. Highway 80, and failed to yield right of way to a blue Volkswagen Passat that was traveling east bound near the entrance ramp to I-20. The white Malibu was occupied by a 64 year old female driver and an 18 year old male passenger. The driver was transported to Hendrick Medical Center in critical condition. The passenger was treated for minor injuries and was also transported to Hendrick Medical Center. The blue Passat was occupied by a male driver who was transported to Hendrick Medical Center for minor injuries. The APD Traffic Division continues to investigate the incident.
