by Public Information Officer, Friday, September 26, 2014, 10:38 (1175 days ago)

On Friday, September 26, 2014, at approximately 6:47 A.M. the Abilene Police Department received a call of a motor vehicle crash at South 27th and Sayles Boulevard. The crash involved a gold Ford pickup and a bicyclist. The vehicle was driven by Aaron Heath Lesley, age 29, of Abilene. The bicyclist was identified as Nathan Fife, age 15, of Abilene. The preliminary investigation indicates that Nathan Fife was riding south on Sayles Blvd. in the northbound outside lane approaching the traffic signal at S.27th street. Aaron Lesley was driving eastbound on S.27th in the outside lane approaching the signal light at Sayles Blvd. Nathan Fife disobeyed the red signal and struck the truck. The investigation indicates that Nathan Fife was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision. Justice of the Peace McAullife pronounced Nathan Fife deceased at the scene. Alcohol does not appear to be a contributing factor in the crash. This crash is currently under investigation by The Abilene Police Department Traffic Division. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of Nathan Fife as well as to the students and faculty of Cooper High School.
