Fatality collision 1000 block EN 10th December 29, 2014 (Press Release)

Abilene, TX – On Monday, December 29, 2014, at approximately 12:50 p.m., officers of the Abilene Police Department responded to a call of a major motor vehicle collision in the 1000 block of E. N. 10th St. First responders arrived on the scene and located a red, black and white 2012 Honda CBR 600 motorcycle laying in the roadway. It’s rider was laying west of the motorcycle, in the roadway at the CVS pharmacy north entrance/exit.

Witnesses stated the motorcycle had been traveling east on E. N. 10th at a high rate of speed. A 4 door sedan had been turning south into the parking lot of CVS from westbound on E.N. 10th St. The motorcycle rider laid the motorcycle on it’s right side and was ejected onto the roadway. One witness stated that it was possible that the 4 door sedan ran over the rider. The driver of that vehicle consented to officer’s inspecting the undercarriage of the vehicle for evidence of the witness’s statement, and that inspection was accomplished at the City of Abilene Vehicle Maintenance Facility. The rider of the motorcycle was identified as James Jay Gemberling of Abilene, a white male 29 years of age. The driver of the sedan was identified as Robert E. Holladay of Abilene, a white male 74 years of age. During the course of the initial investigation at the scene, it was discovered that the motorcycle had been reported as stolen in Abilene on December 27, 2014.

Mr. Gemberling was pronounced deceased at the scene by Justice of the Peace Mike McAuliffe. At the request of family, Community Funeral Home was called to the scene and funeral arrangements are pending. This crash is currently under investigation at the Abilene Police Department Traffic Division under case number 14-25615.
