JOINT STATEMENT FROM ABILENE ISD AND ABILENE POLICE DEPARTMENT (Press Release)

by Public Information Officer, Wednesday, January 21, 2015, 17:20 (1060 days ago)

After numerous conversations, on Wednesday, January 21 the Abilene Independent School District and the Abilene Police Department had a meeting and began collaborative efforts to develop better policies and practices for cooperation during AISD investigations when criminal charges could be implicated. These efforts will not only greatly improve the relationship and dialogue between AISD and the APD but will also significantly impact the security of our students and the ability for the police department to help bring to justice those who harm them.

The conversation will continue on Monday, January 26 during executive session of the AISD School Board of Trustees where Chief Standridge will be present to discuss his concerns as well as the jointly proposed policies and practices.

We appreciate the community’s concerns regarding these issues and want to provide assurance that both the Abilene Police Department and the Abilene ISD are committed to working together for the safety and welfare of our youth.

There will be no further comment at this time.

Sincerely,

Stan Standridge
