ABILENE TX- On Wednesday, January 28, 2015, the Abilene Police and Fire Departments will conduct an extensive training exercise at a property located at Ambler and Grape. The currently vacant building, formerly University Baptist Church, will be used to test the departments in their response to an active shooter event. MetroCare will also participate in the exercises, which are designed to evaluate the integration of police, fire and EMS in an active threat environment. These exercises follow nearly two years of planning and policy-making by the Police and Fire Departments. Dyess role players will be used to assist with real-world moulage.

A media staging area will be available at the intersection of N. 21st and Simmons in an adjacent parking lot. Citizens are discouraged from visiting this area, as police will be using Simunitions weapons to replicate a real incident. Traffic will be diverted in the 2100 block of Beech Street during the exercise, with minimal interruptions elsewhere.

The event exercise is scheduled to begin at 1:30 pm.
