Armed Subject near Cooper High School ***UPDATE*** (Press Release)

Shortly after 9:00 A.M. this morning, the Abilene Police Department received a call from a citizen stating they had observed a white or hispanic male walking toward Cooper High School with what appeared to be a rifle and a back pack. The subject was described as approximately 17 years of age, wearing a blue jean jacket and blue jean pants. He was last seen in the area of South 32nd and Sayles. The School Resource Officer at Cooper High School advised the principal to lock the school down for the safety of the students. Several officers were dispatched to the area and the search is ongoing at this time. If anyone observes this individual they are encouraged to contact the Abilene Police Department with the additional details.

Cooper High School has resumed normal operation at this time. The Abilene Police Department was unable to locate the subject described above or anyone with a weapon near the school. The Abilene Police Department has assigned additional officers on campus at both Cooper High School and Madison Middle School for the remainder of the day. Patrol officers are also aware of the situation and will continually patrol the areas around the schools.
