Aggravated Kidnapping (Press Release)

This morning shortly after 5:00 A.M., the Abilene Police Department received a call of a disturbance in the 2000 block of Victoria. The information provided stated that a 23 year old female had been assaulted and taken against her will by her boyfriend, John Rangel. Officers arrived on scene and learned that John Rangel had forced the female into a vehicle and left the scene. The Abilene Police Department began to look for the female and the vehicle. A command post was set up and intelligence was gathered on the involved parties. During the investigation, a possible location of the subjects was obtained and officers began to check that area. The vehicle and the female victim were located in this area. Further information revealed that John Rangel was inside a residence in the 800 block of South 18th. The Abilene Police Department SWAT team was notified and responded to the scene. Communication was established with individuals in the residence and John Rangel was taken into custody without incident. John Rangel was arrested and charged with 1st Degree Felony Aggravated Kidnapping, 3rd Degree Felony Continuous Assault Family Violence (Due to prior convictions for assault) and 3rd Degree Felony Violation of a Protective Order. The total bond amount on these charges is $120,000.00. These cases will be forwarded to the Taylor County District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
