Fatality Vehicle Collision - Buffalo Gap Road / Rio Mesa Drive (Press Release)

A 16 year old female died from injuries sustained in a two vehicle collision at the intersection of Buffalo Gap Road and Rio Mesa Drive on Monday, August 17th, 2015.

At 7:36 p.m., the Abilene Police Department received a call of a major motor vehicle collision at this location involving a grey 2006 Ford Mustang and a grey 2014 Dodge Charger. An investigation revealed that the Ford Mustang had failed to yield the right of way to the Dodge Charger and entered the roadway into the path of the Charger, resulting in a collision.

The driver of the Mustang, Raquel Andrea Zipprich, a 16 year old female from Abilene, was pronounced dead at Abilene Regional Medical Center. The driver of the Charger, Shirley Holt Price, a 33 year old female from Abilene, was transported to Hendrick Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in this collision. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. At this time, the investigation is on-going.
