by Police Administration, Tuesday, March 29, 2016, 09:55 (1055 days ago)

From March 4th to March 19, 2016, the Abilene Police Department participated in TXDOT’s Impaired Driver Mobilization (IDM) Program, deploying dedicated DWI patrols on the streets of Abilene. These DWI patrols consisted of officers working in an overtime capacity and were dedicated to the detection and apprehension of DWI offenders. This effort is funded by a grant in partnership with the Texas Department of Transportation.

During the IDM, officers completed 6 shifts resulting in 2 DWI arrests, 1 warrant arrest, and 4 citations. Regular duty patrol officers also arrested 11 DWIs, bringing the Spring Break total for DWI arrests to 13.

APD reminds our citizens that DWI is a 100% preventable crime. Utilize a designated driver, call a cab, or call a friend. They also can take advantage of TxDOT’s website SoberRides.org, which lists ride options in areas throughout Texas.
