South Abilene Bank Robbery Incident (Press Release)

ABILENE, TX – On July 12, 2016 at 7:34 a.m., Police Dispatch received a call of a bank robbery at a bank located on the 1800 block of South 1st. Police arrived on the scene and immediately secured the area and began an investigation. Reports by bank employees show that the suspect contacted employees in the parking lot and forced them into the bank and eventually into the bank vault at gunpoint. Once inside, the suspect removed an undisclosed amount of money from the vault and fled the scene.

The suspect is described as a Black male, standing approximately 5’6” with a thin build and wearing baggy clothes. Detectives are reviewing surveillance video to get a better description of the suspect. There is no indication that there was anyone else involved in the robbery. The Federal Bureau of Investigation was called out to assist in the investigation. More information may be released as the investigation continues.
