Abilene Police Department Retires K9 Thor (Press Release)

ABILENE, TX – The Abilene Police Department is saying good-bye to one of its outstanding K9s. Thor will be medically retired on Monday, January 23, 2017. Thor was purchased for APD in 2012 thanks to the partnership between HEB and APD.

Thor was certified nationally four times with the United States Police Canine Association, four times with the National Police Canine Association, and four times with the National Narcotics Detector Dog Association. He received Rookie Dog and 2nd Place Patrol Dog in 2013 and 2nd Place Patrol Dog in 2016.

Thor will remain with his handler, Officer Josh New after his retirement. In all his years with the Department, Thor has only bitten one person, his handler Officer New. The Department recognizes Thor, and his handler for their service for Abilene. He will be missed.
