ABILENE, TX – The Abilene Police Department introduces the newest member to its K-9 Unit. Tica is a 2 year old Belgian Malinois female. She was born in April 2014 in the Netherlands. Tica arrived in the United States on January 2017. She was purchased from Alderhorst International in Riverside, California, who specialize in Police Service Dogs. Tica has a Schutzhund 1 Title, which include training in Obedience, Tracking and Protection, and her commands are in Dutch. She will be partnered with Officer Josh New. Tica will undergo a six-week training period to prepare her for her career as an Abilene Police K-9.

This will bring the Department up to its full complement of four K-9 teams on Patrol which include Officer Josh New and Tica, Officer Kevin Pyeatt and Shadow, Officer Kevin Easley and Tex, and Officer Brandon Scott and Ringo. Our fifth K-9, Karma, serves in the Special Operations Division working mainly in narcotics.

The Abilene Police Department wants to thank HEB for donating the money to make the addition of Tica possible. A formal presentation with Tica at HEB will be scheduled in the near future.
