ABILENE, TX – At 12:38 p.m. The Abilene Police Department Dispatch Center received a call from an AISD, Cooper High School employee, of a large fight in progress in the patio area of the school’s campus. Officers were immediately dispatched to the school. The fight included several students fighting with other students. Faculty members stepped in to help break the fight up and were subsequently assaulted by students.

Police arrived and brought the situation under control with the assistance of some students and faculty. A 16 yr. old male juvenile was subsequently arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault. One student was treated at the hospital for a laceration to his head possibly from a belt buckle. Three faculty members received minor injuries and several other students also received minor injuries.

This incident is an active and ongoing investigation. Due to the nature of the ages of those involved, information which can be released is very limited. The Abilene Police Department will have an increased Police presence at the campus.

Respectfully,
