Pedestrian Fatal in South Abilene (Press Release)

ABILENE, TX – A 57 year old Abilene man died after being struck by a vehicle in south Abilene shortly after 9 a.m. Earnest Leon Medford was traveling south in the 6500 Block of Buffalo Gap Road when he stopped his 2000 Ford F-150 in the roadway. He got out of his truck to retrieve items that fell from his truck and was standing behind it when a 2016 Toyota Camry driven by Harley Jonas struck Medford, pinning him between the two vehicles. Mr. Medford was pronounced deceased at the scene by Justice of the Peace Sparky Dean.

The driver of the Camry, Jonas, and her infant child who was a passenger in the vehicle, were transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries sustained in the accident. No one was cited in the crash and the investigation continues.
