ABILENE, TX – On Monday, June 3, 2017, an ATM repairman was in the process of servicing an ATM inside a convenience store on the corner of Catclaw Dr. and Buffalo Gap Rd. when they noticed possible tampering. The APD Fraud Unit is investigating the incident.

The Department would like to take this opportunity to urge consumers to be vigilant when using ATMs or any other type of credit/debit card machine. Citizens should check the machine for any loose swipe points, pinhole camera or any other suspicious tampering with the device prior to using. Citizens should report any issues with the machine to the store owner. Citizens should also make a regular check of their bank account for any suspicious activity and report them to their bank. If there are any fraudulent purchases, citizens are urged to contact the Abilene Police Department to file a report.

Respectfully,

Rick Tomlin
Public Information Coordinator
