ABILENE, TX – The Abilene Police Department will officially welcome the newest member to the APD K9 Unit on Monday, July 24, at 10:30 a.m. at Abilene Teachers Federal Credit Union at 3849 Antilley Rd.

Barco is a 3 year old Belgian Malinois male who will be partnered with handler, Officer Katie Snell. He was purchased in July with a donation from the Abilene Police Foundation, at a cost of $10,000 from a company in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Officer Snell and Barco are certified in Patrol and Narcotics work from the United States Police Canine Association and National Narcotic Detector Dog Association. This will bring the total APD K9 force back up to four K9 Teams for Patrol. Officer Snell and Barco will join C Company and patrol the streets of Abilene.

The Abilene Police Department is proud to partner with organizations like the Abilene Police Foundation, which helps the citizens of Abilene by making this K9 purchase.
