by Public Information Officer, Saturday, October 14, 2017, 15:17 (582 days ago)

ABILENE, TX – On October 14th at 12:31 am, the Abilene Police Department received a 911 call reporting shots fired at the Civic Plaza Hotel located at 505 Pine St. At the time of the shots being fired, an APD patrol officer was in the 600 block of Pine St, heard the shots fired, and responded immediately. Multiple other patrol officers also responded to the scene.

Based on preliminary information, it appears an altercation erupted after an attempted theft of money which occurred during a party being held at the Hotel. During the altercation, and while outside in the parking areas, at least three males pulled handguns and began randomly firing their weapons at those fleeing the scene.

At least one person was struck by the gunfire along with three vehicles.

As officers were searching the hotel exterior for suspects and any injured persons, a person with a gunshot wound to the lower leg arrived at Hendrick Medical Center. This person arrived at the hospital some five minutes after the initial call. The victim stated he was shot while running away at the Civic Plaza Hotel, but refused to cooperate with investigating officers. He further declined to file charges in this case.

In the immediate aftermath, responding patrol officers observed a maroon Chevrolet Impala fleeing the scene and driving the wrong way on a one way street. A traffic stop was initiated and two people were detained. Those people were identified by witnesses as two of the three suspects in this case. They are identified as:

Jaucorian Davis, a black male, age 18, of Mississippi
David Jordan, a black male, age 21, also from Mississippi (previous arrests for Robbery in MS)

Both Davis and Jordan have been charged with third degree felony deadly conduct, and their bonds have been set at $75,000 each. Both suspects reported local addresses but show Mississippi addresses on their identification.
A .380 caliber handgun was recovered in the Chevrolet Impala as were .380 caliber shell casings at the scene. It was determined by responding officers that the .380 recovered in the Impala was reported stolen in a car burglary on October 3rd at a south side residence.

There were two other calibers of spent casings recovered at the scene, indicating a total of three different weapons were used.

APD has obtained a copy of a video taken by a passing motorists and will be using that video to assist in further investigations. The third suspect, as seen in the video firing a weapon, fled the scene and has not been positively identified.

As detectives conduct a follow up investigation into this incident, any applicable further charges will be filed as appropriate.
